Journalling and the Art of Hygge

It’s February, the weather is bleak, Spring still seems a long way off, we’re looking for ways to brighten the long evenings. The Danish tradition of hygge could be the perfect solution.

“Hygge” is a word that’s difficult to translate into English, it’s an atmosphere of warmth, coziness and comfort, spending time with loved ones, enjoying life’s simple pleasures.

I love the idea of creating a “hyggekrog”, a corner or cosy nook in a room (usually kitchen or living room) where you can sit and have a hyggelig time.  A cosy, inviting, softly lit corner where you can curl up with a good book, journal, steaming mug of hot chocolate, and savour the moment.

Spending time writing in a journal can be very soothing and hyggelig. You could even keep a “hygge journal” celebrating the hygge moments in your life and planning future hygge experiences with friends and family.

After a quick search on Instagram (my favourite source of inspiration) I found some beautiful “hyggekrog”, below are a few of my favourites. I’m feeling inspired to go homeright this minute and create my own hyggekrog, no one will mind if I leave work early right? 😉
